This all started back in the mid 90’s when a buddy of mine asked if I wanted to climb Mt Rainier. I jumped at the chance! Over 15 years later, and 4 attempts I still have not climbed that bastard. But I have loved every year of getting ready for the attempt. During that 15 years I have also had to turn back on Mt Shasta and well as getting stormed off Mt Adams. Sounds like a helluva lot of failures doesn’t it….
HOWEVER, in that same time frame I have summated Mt Baker and Mt St Helens (5 times) as well as Mt Lassen. I have ridden from Seattle to Portland, Seattle to Vancouver BC as well as From Astoria Oregon to Crescent City CA. I’ve also run a half marathon and all kinds of 3, 10, and 12K’s!
Even on my failures, I have seen sunrises from 12, 500 feet, flown a kite at 11, 000 feet, had a mountain goat walk through my camp and seen huge avalanches fall down the side of the mountain. I’ve stood on the side of and fallen into crevasses and been places the majority of the world will never see.
This year, my goal is to complete the Seattle to Portland in 1 day. That’s 200 miles in 15.25 hours… The training has begun, and this will help me keep the world posted on what is going on. So far I have ridden almost 260 miles since the beginning of 2012. I am WAY ahead of last year’s pace and hope to keep it going. The first big ride of the year is the Chilly Hilly 33 miles around Bainbridge Island Wa, on the last Sunday of Feb. It will be my 4th or 5th time doing this ride and I am looking forward to it!
Stay tuned!
PS… If there is something you’ve always wanted to do, then dammit sign up for itl Once you’ve spent the money on it, it is MUCH easier to start training,..
